1. It is important that you give good answers to questions asked on forums. It is also important that you seem knowledgeable on a subject. If you are not, become knowledgeable. As long as forum members believe you are knowledgeable and provide good content you will become trusted. It is only human nature to purchase products from someone you know and trust.
2. It is a known fact that major search engines index highly active discussion boards. You will get more postings to major search engines, if you are involved in a hotly debated discussion. But make sure you know your facts and are perceived as an expert.
3. Most forums archive their posts. At times members will search the archived files for answers to their questions. It is possible that you will get a hit on your site by a member who found an answer to a question you wrote on one or two years before. Would that be nice?
4. Want an idea for a new product? Post to the board a question or a concern and see what people's problems are. Once you have a clear picture of a particular problem, you can research it. Once you have a created a solution, you have ready market to sell your product.
5. After writing post for a while, there could be enough good information to write an ebook. Especially if they have solve problems that people believe were groundbreaking. A book on tips and advice could be sold or used as a viral marketing tool.
